Future of Africa Dressmaking Training Workshop

The Norviwo Clothing Workshop will consist of a workspace for dressmaking, embroidery and screen printing to equip over 20 street youth annually with basic and intermediate skills in sewing and fashion designing.

Project Overview

Every day, thousands of young girls and boys struggle to survive on the streets of Accra, trapped in extreme poverty and exposed to crime, exploitation, and sex trafficking. FOA’s Norviwo Youth Wellbeing and Development Program is a proven solution to break this cycle. By providing safety, care, and skills training, we help youth rewrite their stories, transforming their lives and communities.

Project Goals

1. Empowerment through Skills: Provide comprehensive training in dressmaking to over 20 street youth annually.

2. Employment and Entrepreneurship: Facilitate job placements and entrepreneurial opportunities for trained youth, enabling them to achieve financial independence.

3. Community Integration: Foster a supportive environment where youth can learn, grow, and contribute positively to society.

4. Community Support: Enable individuals and companies to help transform the lives of street children through the purchase of clothing created during and after their training.

Project Implementation
  • Training Facilities: Norviwo Community Center will house a dedicated dressmaking and clothing design workshop within a repurposed shipping container equipped with industry-standard tools and equipment.
  • Curriculum: The training program will cover dressmaking techniques, customer service, and business management skills, preparing trainees for employment and entrepreneurship.
  • Partnership: FOA has secured a partnership with Macfly fresh printing in Charlotte NC, USA as a technical training partner for knowledge and skills transfer. Macfly will provide mentorship, ensuring the program meets current market needs and standards.

Budget and Funding Needs
  • Total Project Cost: $20,000
  • Funding Requirements: $11,000 to cover equipment costs and $6,000 for the renovation of a 40ft container. $3,000 for training materials and training personnel.
  • Sustainability Plan: Revenue generated from services provided by trainees and ongoing support from partners will ensure the program's longevity.

FOA invites you to fund the establishment of our Dressmaking and Training Workshop. Your financial contribution will transform individual lives and uplift entire communities by instilling hope and breaking the cycle of poverty through practical education and employment opportunities.
