Future of Africa - A decade working with street youth

Future of Africa is a registered not-for-profit in Ghana, committed to empowering African youth and fostering community development.

Our Journey

FOA begun in 2008 by TK Mawuli Azaglo, starting as a campus club at Wilfrid Laurier University to challenge stereotypes about Africa. What began as a small initiative quickly grew into a movement with a global impact.

Between 2009 and 2015, FOA led service-learning trips to Uganda and Ghana, where Canadian students worked on projects like computer literacy, poultry farming, sports, and school renovations.

In 2017, FOA became a registered not-for-profit in Ghana, solidifying its commitment to empower African youth and foster community development. Today, FOA focuses on guiding young girls and boys living on the streets to redirect their lives toward a productive future.

Mission & Vision

Our mission involves mentoring youth to cultivate the hope, character, and assets to transform their lives and their communities.  Our vision is African youth collaborating for transformative change on the continent and beyond

Wellness Wednesday

  • I was on the street for seven years and because I had epilepsy and polio people used to shun me just like my parents did. But since I joined FOA, now I see myself as a person. That I also matter.

Our Programs

Our Norviwo Programs are designed to transform the lives of children and youth living in street situations by addressing their immediate needs, fostering personal development, and equipping them for sustainable futures either through formal education or vocational skills training.

Norviwo Service & Street Outreach - The Norviwo Service and Street Outreach incorporate weekly Street Outreach and Wellness Wednesday activities to provide essential well-being support services to street youth, and leadership training to high school and university students.

Norviwo Transformation Pathways - NTP is a four-year comprehensive program that restores overall health and well-being, facilitates family reunification, and transitions street youth into job-skills training programs, ultimately leading to meaningful employment.

Norviwo Academic Scholars - The Norviwo Academic Scholars Program restores overall health and well-being, facilitates family reunification, and provides scholarships and mentorship to academically bright street youth, covering their academic and personal needs up to high school.

What We Believe

As a growing community organization, we uphold ourselves to a level of compassion and integrity that is founded in our beliefs, and the convictions we hold as true. Combined with our mission and vision, these beliefs are the core influences and values that our programs and operations are built on.

We are all on earth for a purpose - all human lives are equal in value, and people possess immense potential.

We have an obligation to care - Mission, caring, and looking out for one another, especially the most vulnerable in our communities is fundamental to living life with meaning and purpose.

Relationships matter - children and youth are resilient, they will change and grow if surrounded by people who care and believe in them.

We can build a better world - A better world is characterized by service, compassion, and justice - respect for human rights and dignity

2025 marks a significant milestone for Future of Africa. Ten years walking alongside street youth in Accra, giving them hope and providing opportunities for a better future. We have come a long way, from sharing food on Saturday nights and meeting the immediate needs of street youth, to establishing a community center where young girls and boys can leave the street and thrive.

Become The Change You Want To See
