Ex NBA star, Pops Mensah-Bonsu spends the day with the youth inspiring them with his story
A very personable leader and an advocate for Ghana’s most neglected and vulnerable children, TK is committed to building an organisation that solves difficult social issues, and redefines African leadership.
Today, Future of Africa is a highly reputable Ghanaian NGO with an extensive reach and impact. Its vision is an Africa where vulnerable children and youth are protected from abuse and equipped to realise and contribute their created potential. Under TK’s leadership FOA has evolved from a campus club in Wilfrid Laurier University, Waterloo Canada, to a growing Ghanaian youth movement transforming the lives of vulnerable children in street situations. Its programs have improved the lives of more than 100 children and their families, and impacted over 60 passionate university students.
A strong believer in relationships, TK can be found every week in the streets hanging out with children in street situations or mentoring university students. TK’s childhood experiences growing up in Ghana, and Canada as an international student, helped him to develop his capacity and empathy with which he engages FOA’s work.
Prior to working full-time for FOA, TK was the Associate Dean of Students & Community Affairs at Ashesi University, were he established the Student Life & Engagement unit. He was the recipient of the 2016 and 2017 Most Outstanding Staff award at Ashesi’s annual Ubora Awards. Before Ashesi, TK worked at Wilfrid Laurier University as a Global Engagement Coordinator. Prior to joining Laurier International he worked as an International Recruitment & Admissions Coordinator at Wilfrid Laurier University with a focus on Africa, Middle East, Caribbean and UK markets.
TK holds a Bachelor of Arts double major in Global Studies & Political Science from Wilfrid Laurier University. At Laurier, he led several campus initiatives to improve student life and engagement. TK was the recipient of the 2011 Student Leadership in Internationalisation Award from the Canadian Bureau of International Education.
He is married to Nikki Horne, a co-recepient of the 2019 Laurier Alumni Award for Community Impact with. They are blessed with two great kids, Elormi and Lorla.

Mary Sinaida is replicating Future of Africa’s street outreach program in Kenya, providing critical support to street-connected youth, offering immediate relief, friendship and renewed hope.
